Tamiya's Blazing Blazer was the top of the line RC model in the mid 80's. The original design was picked up from American desert race cars. Based on the Chevy Blazer body, the Americans made these winged racers for fun in the desert.

  This must be Tamiya's role model when they made the Blazing Blazer. This 1:1 car was driven by Bob Gorden in 1978 in the Parker 400 Desert Race.

  Here is a similar construction, very close to the Blazer. This one is a Ford Bronco.
