The Tamiya F.A.V is a replica of the US military Fast Attach Vehicle.
As you can see below, the model is quite like the original.
.

|
| |
The Fast
Attack Vehicle was developed during the 1980s as part of the United
States' Army's High Technology Light Division. The HTLD was given carte
blanche to develop doctrine, decide force structure, and design equipment
by then Army Chief of Staff Edward C. Meyer.
Check out this picture, quite like the model, except for
the bigger gun...

One of the
pieces of equipment created by HTLD was the Fast Attack Vehicle. Chenowth
delivered 120 FAVs to the Army in 1981. The FAV was intended to provide a
highly mobile component to the mostly foot infantry unit.
This is a nice restored FAV, also very like the model.

Another FAV,
this one with some option parts mounted, like the rubber fenders, wind
shield, etc. |

And here
you can clearly see that it was Volkswagen based. For those of you who
have been working on beetles, this gearbox view should be familiar :-)

The
interior. Those seats don't look too comfy...

And details
of the typical military style marking of the vehicle.
