Found this forum by way of Johnny Retro's article on building Tamiya's original body (nice build, by the way).

I'm new to RC. Sort of. Back in 1982 I discovered toy porn in the form of a Tamiya catalogue I got my hands on. I grew up in Africa so anything from that catalogue was pretty much unobtainable, so when I discovered computers in the mid-80's RC was all but forgotten. Until May last year, when I saw a YouTube clip of the Tamiya Mountain Rider. Got one, built it, and... hooked.

Problem with the Hilux was that it left a hole. I wanted more, and it needed to last longer than the Hilux lasted. Sounding like an addict. Long story short, I scratch-built a Ford Bronco Concept from 2004. It sits on a Vaterra Ascender. Doors, hood and boot open and close, and the roof comes off in two parts. Also made a Big Oly wing for it.

It's not quite finished because I couldn't wait to build an Unimog 401 for the same chassis. This one was a quick (read sloppy) build and intended to take a beating in competitions.

After that I customised a China Jeep JK body from Ebay into a River Raider ST replica, this time on a GCM J2 Skeleton chassis.

Destroyed that body at the UK Recon G6 event in June, so built a new body for it, designed specifically for competitions and to take a hit. This one is a bit of a mashup of the Jeep Trailcat Concept and the Jeep Porkchop.

While building the second Jeep I also built a re-released Sand Scorcher. This one still needs lights, an interior, and a driver.

Which brings us up to date. And the reson for signing up here. You'll have noticed the pretty decided offroad theme, and consequently I now have running versions of all types of offroaders. The idea from here on in is to go back to scratch building, which I seem to enjoy the most. I have no idea what I'm going to build yet, but do know it'll be based on something from Tamiya.

That's it from me, for now.
