.... a tax on stupidity?
Spotted this on ebay. It claims to be a device that you plug into your cigarette lighter and it saves you fuel. At first I thought it might monitor your driving (via accelerometers or similar) and tell you to slow down or something, but no, it seems more magical than that. It is basically a smoothing capacitor for your car electrical system. Quite how something that will fit into your cigarette lighter can provide enough power to compensate for electrical loads that are too much for a 75AH lead acid battery and 120A alternator, I don't know. And even if it could, how that might improve fuel efficiency. Coupled with the fact that if a £4 device could meet the claims given, car manufacturers would fit it as standard anyway seeing as they happily spend millions on engine development to save a couple of grams of CO2. People will buy anything. |
