The Wild Willy is based on the military Willy M38 from the manufacturer Overland (the predecessor to Jeep Corporation). The Willy was borne as a military jeep for the US Army that in 1939 needed something to replace what they had at that time (tings like modified T-Models (!) and such) Eventually Overland won the deal in competition with Ford and Bantam, and more or less ever since, we have had the Willy's. The well know Willy from World War II was called Willy MB, while the Tamiya model is based on the later Willy M38 built between 1950 and 1952. And just as a curiosity, did you know that the Willy's was the US Army's predecessor to the XR311 ?
