Tamiya used the chassis from the Audi Quattro to also make an Ascona Rally version. Many people think that the Ascona body looks better on the chassis, and look more true to the original. This is the only picture I have been able to find of the car that Tamiya obviously looked at when making 58037. The car has Danish registration number and was driven by Jens Ole Kristiansen in the Danish rally 'Ford Sierra Rally' 21st august 1981. His co-pilot were probably Mr. Hartwigsen. As you can see, the decaling and helmet design was pretty much replicated by Tamiya. Now, why doesn't Tamiya mention the Dane in the Manual, but instead the German Walther Røhrl ? I do not know, but it is probably because Røhrl won the driver world championship in 1982 and since became a big name in rallying. In spite Jens Ole Kristiansen's numerous Danish championships in rallying, with this very car, he could not compete with Røhrl on the world market, which is where Tamiya products are selling... So why not use the Walther Røhrl car as model then ? Again I can only speculate, but I believe it has to do with licensing and trademarks.
