I've been keeping an eye on these for a while. 58017 B2B Racing Sidecar, this is the model Tamiya brought out after the Sand Scorcher ??? They obviously had no idea how successful that was going to be. Any way I'd been looking at used ones on eBay and then Eddy posted up his dad's NIB ( for the record this isn't it ). We had a chat about it and I was seriously looking to buy it. My dilemma was coming up with a fair price, I've bought a couple of things off Eddy and would like to think I've honest on prices. But this was a tough one especially as my research came up with very little. I found one kit that had sold in 2014 for about £240. And the only other one I'd seen was from Japan at about $550, but then you can probably add in another £100+ to get it shipped and fees paid. Then this kit came up on eBay and it was in the UK. Weirdly I only planned on following it to see what it sold for, but then on the final day no one had bid on it, so I watched it to the end of the auction and still no one bid, except for me. So I picked this up for £285, I think it was a touch over £300 with postage. I messaged Eddy to let him know why I'd gone quiet on the deal. So this is my first NIB vintage kit. The main thing for me is I want to build it, so the fact the box isn't 100% perfect was fine by me. The contents are perfect which is all that matters, I'm sure the only casualty after all these years will be the rubber bands. The seller mentioned a possible issue with the decals, so I will probably order some MCI ones, just in case. I'm hoping when I stick them down that it irons out any problems with them. I don't know if it's just me, but it feels like the vintage market has cooled recently, I've picked up a number of spare parts recently at really good prices and I was shocked when I was the only one who bid on this. I'd lost a few auctions for used ones that need restoring, so I consider myself very happy to have won this one. It's lovely to have a Tamiya time capsule, I'll no doubt enjoy just owning this for a while before I sit down and carefully open up that blister. Just opening up the box lid reminded me of being 13 years old and getting my Sand Rover, removing the lid and seeing how neatly everything was packed. Attachments:

After the 959 and celica grB, the b2b is very intriguing and the one I would like to have.

Hi Jim, yep that's a 380 motor or as it says on the box, " a powerful 380S motor ".
I was looking at the instructions and they do say you can put a 540 motor in it, but being a 3 wheeler I don't think I'd want to take the risk, although might be good for some extra weight over the rear axle ???
