As far as I understand the short design of the Motor is to improve Center of Gravity? A long can would make the car heavier on one side, which of course is not good ..

ooohhhhh I had the same under cover on my fiat. But it exploded...
This motor is pretty nice inside the gearbox.

If you don’t mind me asking once you’ve swapped out that many option parts how much of the original car is left ?

Mainly the plastic parts like the chassis, suspension arms, gearboxes, body posts. About all the small stuff is replaced.
So, you are left with quite alot of parts :-)

This was a pic a took just before I started. All option parts are TAMIYA!

More XR311 / Cheetah parts.
I had a sort through of my stash of parts for these cars and it’s quite scary.

I’ll use the decent one of the two manual speed controllers for my vintage resto.

The gear box cover is in good nick. So a bit of a bonus.
