I am really happy with this.
My first Tamiya was the Sand Rover when it was originally released and in 2015 I bought a really beaten up one. Between then and now I’ve bought a lot of parts, tyres you name it I’ve bought it, even a Holiday Buggy. Which I don’t really like. Any way a while back I bought some Cheetah parts off a total gent. Long story short, he was happy to hold this Sand Rover for me. This week I was finally able to get my hands on it. It arrived on Wednesday, but tonight I opened up the box. It’s in lovely condition, I’m super happy. Shock towers aren’t broken, now that is rare, I’ve got 5 other chassis to prove it. Body shell is in beautiful condition. I thought I might have paid a bit too much, but no worth every penny. Can’t wait to start cleaning this up. And all those NOS tyres, especially the rear ones are now a good purchase. |

Wooohhh Al. It is a very nice condition sand rover. With acoms mk1 (?) Radio gears. The body needs only a good cleaning. Congrats.

Nice one So a complete restoration or just a tidy up? If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate

Hi Flo, Rob thanks.
I had a good look over it last night. The chassis is in very good condition. The bottom looks very clean and barely a scratch. The shell is great. It looks like it’s only been painted once. A nice paint job as well. So I could just clean it up. But I think this is going box art. I have other shells to try out something different. Plus it wouldn’t really feel like mine if I just gave it a clean. I also have all the bits to make it 100% complete, which isn’t too much to be fair. I think the only bits missing are the gear lever and the rear bumper. Which will be in my stash of Sand Rover / Holiday Buggy parts.

Hi Flo, the servos are asa 227. I really know very little about Acoms equipment. I know they are original for the time. I’m currently waiting for an early Acoms transmitter to arrive, after realising I now have 4 sets of servos and receivers, but no idea if any of them work. I was going to say I’ve always had Futaba gear, but that would consist of borrowing my dads M series and then the set I bought in the mid 80’s. So I certainly have a lot to learn and catch up on, on this front. |

Jonny wrote a almost complete topic on the acoms story. You'll find all you need about this brand.
