I’ve had this Toyota cab body since the 80’s. Originally I had it on an SRB chassis.
But I always wanted to get it onto the correct 3 speed chassis.

So this afternoon I’ve been doing a bit of tinkering on this.

The thing I’ve discovered is that although this was moulded from the original body, because the rear body has been attached to the cab, it’s brought the wheel base down by at least 10 mm.

After a lot of thinking time, but mostly looking on rc web sites looking for ideas.
I’ve removed one of the cross members and used a 1-14 scale truck leaf spring. These are shorter than the originals.
For now I’ve used the hole on the chassis rails vacated by the cross member and attached the suspension.

This has allowed me to bring the rear axle forwards by about 12mm.

Luckily I had an old Cc01 drive shaft.
Originally it had come in a sale of Hilux / Blazer parts. So after being a bit bemused by it not fitting a 3 speed build.
I think it was Flo who tipped me off about what it was from.
It’s shorter length is pretty good for this.

This all needs to be tidied up. Then look at fitting the radio box.

A couple of things I will end up having to do is chop about 20 mm off the ends of the chassis rails. And I’ve noticed an over hang on the shell of about 10 mm at each end. This will need trimming back so I can get the body to sit as close as possible to the original.

I think if I can get this together, then you’ve potentially got a pair of nice trucks.

I’d also like to fit the original interior into this.
So that will mean cutting out the windows and hoping I can fit a windscreen as well as finding a way of fitting the seat.

Wanted a couple of small cases for trim tools & boroscope kit - the "silver" one was coventional aluminium looking panels, but the "yellow" one was in really ugly pseudo gold :S

A bit of carbon fibre look vinyl & it looks a lot better to me :)

Lovely! Did you make those braces yourself or does somebody make a kit? I've heard about the 5th shock mod but I've never actually seen any instructions about specifically how to do it.

All custom no kit, I have a thread somewhere on TB about LB hopups and the fifth.
