Impressive kit - it really is a Beetle under those flat body panels
I didn't know how much I needed one of these until I saw your build, so thanks for that Could you please measure the wheelbase & track width? I know Tamiya make 1:35 & 1:48 versions, plus a 1:16 RC version, but it seems like they missed a trick not making a 1:12 or 1:10 RC kit in the "vintage" era - the XR311/Cheetah chassis would have been a bit odd but not totally horrible (at least it's rear engine, RWD), or more obviously the SRB chassis - a detailed styrene body would work on either, with an almost full interior on the XR311 or partial/waterline interior on the SRB ... they could have made a military one (probably Afrika Korps box art rather than "Western Front"?), and civilian Thing/Trekker (in Sunshine Yellow) versions. Probably should be careful what I wish for, Tamiya may read this & decide what we need is a vacform, top up Kubelwagen body on an M-07 chassis

Thanks Jonny for the title. I can't modify them.
tamiya did a rc 1/14 or 1/16 version. And a big scale version to. Wheelebase is 27cm wide track approx 16cm centre rim to centre rim (rear). I knew this kit from Richard. (Caprinut) . Very detailed with 4 different decos. Same the roof is in web and able to move. Openable doors and sold with a mg42. The new item of the kit has more details with photoetched parts. Don't talk about it sure that tamiya will sale one.... 😁😁

I am sure that a 4wd pilot could be installed inside.
A "fritz" helmet is in the kit. I will try it on one of my head.

Looking good
It's very tempting, the "old" version can be had here at around 100GBP, compared to 190 GBP for the "new" I'm more interested in the later civillian "Thing", which although superficially the same has many different features - fewer pressed ribs, different shaped doors (the front ones also being conventionally hinged), square wheelarches, flatter frunk/bonnet & bigger nose, no doubt lots of other stuff too. I think it would be easier to build a body from scratch than modify a Revell kit, and as I have other projects on the go it's going to have to just sit on the "ideas" list for the time being.
