Even though I started this topic with Dexter and the first few seasons were great, something happened along the way that made this series utterly ridiculous. Couldn't even get myself to watch the last season.
Boardwalk Empire's probably one of my current favourites. |

Boardwalk Empire found a solution for that (to keep things fresh)... they pretty much kill off everybody all the time.

If you weren't already aware, it's called "Jumping the Shark" - the point at which the viewer can no longer suspend disbelief. For example, and just sticking to older sci-fi series: Sliders: midway through season 3 when the professor dies and it becomes obvious the show is going to be more about hotpants than parallel worlds; Battlestar Galactica (remake) when the final 4 cylons are revealed (more like telegraphed over 3 episodes) ... and that point I felt I had a lot invested in it & carried on, and was "rewarded" with the final episode, which was 5 minutes of story and 23 different endings from every characters POV ... and even then IT STILL WASN'T OVER with prequels & spinoffs ... Red Dwarf: season VII when it went single camera (and was less than 1/2 as funny); Farscape "season 5", when no-one noticed that a black hole IS NOT THE SAME AS a wormhole |
