I just finished my first ever 3d print
Some VW wheel hub caps I found online. Sadly I can't find them at this moment so I will come back with the creators name and where. I will call this success A bit misshap on the vw logo on two of them, but still useable. Wheels also have clamp for 7mm nut on the backside My plan is to fit them on these wheels when I'll get to print the 1.7" Knight Customs outer covers This setup will be the closest to the orginal wheels my father had on the van. |

Today I printed a Ansen Slot Mag wheel.
I'm a sucker for Slot Wheels. Don't think these will go on this build, but will be on a trailer build for sure. Creator of these was MrGreyZ on Tingiverse. This one is 1.7" so they are front of FAV etc. I've fitted a M chassis tire. For best result they need a extra bead glued on to suit the M chassis tire width. I also printed one 1.7" cover from Knight Customs to suit FAV wheels. The hubcaps I printed earlier, fits perfect into the wheel cover. With the cover fitted to the FAV wheel, it looks like a VW wheel now. Boom Racing 2mm scale bolts also add to the scale element. Wheelcaps do not clear the scale bolts, so either I need to file clearance voids for them, or print the wheelcap sligthly bigger. But the main parts are there |

Still playing with wheels and tires combo for this.
I recently printed the 1.5" versions of the Ansen slot mag wheels for the front of Hornet. Theste with M chassis tires and they don't fit at all as M chassis ones are 1.55" I had plans on using these on a future trailer build if those chassis tires would fit. Here is the 1.5" version Good dept of these. Printed at fast setting so it is not as fine detailed as the previous one. Far to much rubber to be used on this build with Hornet tire Then I had a brilliant idea. Rememver these tires? These are the ones I think has the perfect hight Solution was to fit two round of 0.5mm styrene around the 1:7" Beetle steel covers so the fit the tire. I wanted to narrow these tires for the front so they are like a 205 tire. But that did not turn out that good as the diameter of the tire thread changes across the tire width This is basicly the thread I want, the hight I want, the width I want and the wheel diameter itself. Do any know of a rubberized superglue that works fast? The Locktite rubberized one I tested was drying to slow to be able to glue one section at the time.. |

Here is how the the FAV wheel looks with a 3d printed center piece.
Still need to print the inner part. Not happy how the center piece turned out (2nd attempt fitted to the wheel, the center pictured above is not used), so next time I will slice the part in half and print with the spoke to the bed at 100% infill, then reglue them. I really should start painting the body soon, as winter is here before we know it... .

Looking good
I've never found that "CA" & "fast" go together, unless it's how short the window is for being able to separate your fingers after holding something for an age waiting for it to set ... 30 minutes holding two bits together, nothing. A single molecule gets on you skin for 0.000001 of a second at the end of that 30 minutes & you'll be doing an involuntary chef's kiss for hours. Zap RT (#PT-44) is the one I've had most luck with, "Gorilla" Super Glue Gel would be a close second. Still, you have to do a small bit at a time & use tape to hold it while setting, and 2 -3 attempts might be necessary on some uncooperative sections of tyre. I've never used a CA "kicker" due to the expense and poor availability here, but given my decades long level of frustration with CA glues, I might finally treat myself |
