Starting my Scoobie rebuild 11 years 7 months ago #13020

Today I started my rebuild of a Tamiya Subaru Impreza. My aim is to take time and strip right down with the hope that I can also track down an original body, or at least a new lexan for it. This is my first Impreza, so I hope to bring her back to full glory.

The pics show the car before I dismantled and cleaned all parts. I'm yet to immerse the screws etc in wd-40.

I'd also like to know whether I can replace the standard motor with the Technigold motor that I have waiting to transplant in to my Porsche 959 rebuild (I have a few spare!)

Nice! A 58210 TA03F if I'm not mistaken. :)
A setup like the real scale car - 4WD and front motor.

I'm pretty sure it can mechanically take a Technigold, provided it has ball bearings.
Don't know what it'll do to the handling though.

Ah yes, the TA03F chassis :y:

I have one of those, set up as a drifter - hard rear shocks, locked rear diff, soft front shocks, hard tyres all round, steering modified for more lock (using the inner steering rod holes + a bit of dremelling to stop things binding) ... and a EZRUN 5.5T brushless combo  :D It usually wears a Citroen Xsara shell in use, but has an Impreza shell for the shelf & Sunday best :)

Anyway - the point of my post is yes, you can put what you like in this chassis - the motor won't break it (although the speed it causes might) ... and cheap Scooby body sets do come up fairly regularly - mine was off a much later TT01 chassis car.

:)

Although the new XV-01 is quite awesome, this car had the original idea. B)
I think the universal dimensions of this chassis will allow for pretty much any 1/10 rally or on road shell to be fitted.
As long as you can figure things out with the body posts...
It would be best of course if it doesn't have the holes pre-drilled.
Even though some nice small decals can pretty much solve that issue.

Nice thread, I'll be following it. :y:

Btw, if you want to see what can be done with a TA03F, have a look here . :woohoo:

Looks like i'm going to have to source a few replacement parts.

The rear damper stay, part B-3 (50699) has had a resin repair.

And the front section, part A-3 (50698) has seen better days.

Checking the differential gears resulted in a thorough clean, due to water penetration from yesterday's wash.
