Re-Re FAV Build 12 years 1 week ago #8649

This has been sitting in the cupboard since Christmas, I finally worked up enough enthusiasm to start on it ...

Pile of bits to spray before assembly ... not sure when I'm going to get to do it, after a couple of weeks of mostly fine spraying weather, the last time I checked the thermometer it was -4 C outside :S

... and a pile of bits for brush painting:

Jonny, I look forward to see your painting of this. I did mine some time ago, but I chickened out of painting the camouflage. I hope you show how it's done :)

It won't be boxart camouflage, but nevertheless - I have a cunning plan :D

The temperature went up a little, so I got the primer & base coat on:

Also got a couple of coats of the basic colours on the interior/driver:

Need to wait for things to harden off before continuing, so that's pretty much it for today :)

This'll be another great build to follow. :) :y:
The driver's head and his dogged attitude look very cool already!

A bit more sprayed this morning ...

I started assembling the wheels, but quickly realised the edges of the back part was visible - tickled them up with the very last dregs of the light olive...

Moving on to the bodywork, it's not boxart, but I will be using it as a guide, just with the colours swapped over a little:
boxart "light sand" becomes "light olive";
boxart camo black becomes red oxide;
boxart green camo becomes satin black; and
boxart white camo stays white.

I scanned it the decal sheet & draft printed lots of copies on 160gsm card & cut out the white bits to use as masks:

Holding them a couple of mm away from the bodywork & giving lots of light puffs from a distance gives soft edges ... and spray drift if you don't cover the rest of the body :whistle:

Ditto for the "red oxide" masks...

... but it's not drying very fast, so I'm having to leave it quite a while between masks:

I have one more to go, then I can to the black bits - it should make more sense then :)

You sure make it difficult for yourself ! :laugh:
But, I'm sure it's going to look stunning when done.

Raining earlier & still too cold/damp to do any spraying, so I'll be on inside duties today ...

Assembled the wheels & lettered the rear tyres:

Painted on lowlights on the drivers uniform:

... they weren't really dark enough to differentiate the belts, so had another go with much more black in the mix:

Highlights are probably a bit too light, but will be mostly hidden later anyway...

Either he's been attacked by 1/10 scale seagulls, or I've started on the camouflage ;)
