40cm x 30cm x 10cm box? That could work ... if you took off the wheels, rollcage, windscreen, driver, bottom of the gearbox, and both bumpers ... that would leave room for maybe one layer of bubbblewrap on top of the body & one under the chassis :silly:

Don't have a go. I was just guessin'

Sorry - I was just trying to demonstrate the futility of trying to send something "cheaply" to South Africa :(

It arrived today - a week after I'd expected, but the seller claimed a "family emergency". That may have been true, but they only told me after I'd asked where it was, and without wanting to sound unduly cynical, I think I've heard every excuse for slow despatch of eBay goods at least twice

Anyway ... it looks quite good:

But there are always problems in close up... like this glue on the driver for a start...

And the broken/glued rollcage ...

And the headlight ...

Body stripped of bits (the car smells funny so i want to wash is as soon as possible):

Glue on the driver has luckily gone old & crusty ...

So was quite easy to get off :)

Underside shows the car hasn't been abused...

But the bumper doesn't look that healthy in comparision:

Remember Dymo tape? :S

Gearbox has a little gravel rash:

One of the rear body mounts is broken, but I have a spare from my re-re :)

Front shock tower tops are, unusually, intact :)

Rear spring rubbers are rotted, but are just a bit of tube so easy to replace ...

Wiring on the battery & fuse holder looks rotted (I'm sure leaving the battery connected contributes to/causes this :(

Wheels are a bit chewed up around the edges, tyres are cracked but are quite worn & very dry...

MSC servo was held in with silicone sealant

Got the tyres scrubbed, + soaking in (Kosher) Glycerine ... Lids on the takeaway tubs are something of an experiment - Glycerine is hydroscopic as anything & will suck moisture right out of the air, making it halve in viscosity in a few days ... I'm not sure if that dilution actually affects its efficacy, but I've always left the tubs open before ...

Also did the stinky stuff - after one apllication of De-Solv-It graffiti remover, 1/2 hour soak time, annother application/scrub & a rinse off:

I found I couldn't get in some of the nooks & crannies so quickly modified a toothbrush ...

After a 2nd cycle:

I think it was last July I restored my first Sand Rover ... I always thought the sharpie looked pants on the driver, but I've grown increasingly dissatisfied with it so thought I'd have another go ... I think the resulty illustrates why I didn't strip it last time & just painted over the top of what was already there ... TBH I'm not sure it's worth salvaging - especially as I have two spare drivers I got cheap from Siedel a while back...
