Hi Tamiya Nut, as mentionned by Stingray, first 2000 grid paper, then 1000 and finally "Chromes polishing" from Belgom.
All the remaining dust and small maks came easily off with the Belgom Chromes cleaner. Here a pic of it Hope this helps Manotas Proud owner of the Bruiser Family

Small update on this one...
I've been thinking lots about how to paint this SS body as easy as possible. I came to the conclusion that going against the common wisdom, i'd change my mind. So, i painted the body in TS10 Blue. Attachment not foundAfter that i made some pattern in order to cover all the parts that had to be painted in white. I started with the rear Attachment not foundAnd cutted the masking stripes according the lines of the pattern Attachment not foundAttachment not foundIt's looks relly weird, the body colour looks like greyisch...but it's really TS10 blue !! Going further with the front part.
My first attempt did not met my expectations... Made agains patterns in order to cover the blue parts. This was the main decision to change the colour from white to blue because i absolutely wanted the edge lines of the hood to be white! I know some could do it easily, but i don't have Jonny's paint skills ha ha ha Here my first attempt for the front patterns i made from drwings i found on the internet. Attachment not foundDrawed them on a large masking tape Attachment not foundThen cutted it off with a knife Attachment not foundAnd finally applied them on the body. Well this first attempt did not mask everything as i wanted to. I used another approach and made my new patterns directly from the body Attachment not foundThen same procedure as before Attachment not foundAnd applied them on the body Attachment not foundWell, it's still not perfect, but will correct those details tonight. Thanks for looking Manotas Proud owner of the Bruiser Family

Conventional wisdom is you paint moulded bodies light colours first, as dark colours cover light colours better than the other way round (lexan the other way round), but maybe modern paints have improved to the point where you don't have to worry about that so much?
So far I have to say that the masking isn't looking any quicker or easier doing it this way... Looking forward to seeing the result, the proof is in the pudding they say ... |

Nice classic Baja VW bodies there.
I did a decent job using Tamiya tape a few years ago. Now I will have to paint a couple of those myself anytime soon, and to do so I already bought a bottle of Humbrol Maskol. Somehow I suppose that kind of masking will work better than tape. I will have to try and prove myself right on this one, because the original Sand Scorcher paintscheme is indeed a very complex one. Good luck with your Scorcher! |
