Richard's Wild One project - maybe a bit restomod in the end. 5 years 11 months ago #49681

Seem that I have hit the Tamiya mojo the last couple of weeks, so I carry on while it lasts :silly:

Remember this one?
I ended up buying that one

In 2016 took the project down from the shelf to rebuild it.

MSC was a mess

The mechanical bit needs a good clean

Body had a overspray of some sort.
I tried acetone free nail polish remover, but that ruined the body, got very brittle and claudy, allmost white.
That body ended in the skip

Front tires is dry rotten, don't remember how the rears was

Non stock bumper I will replace, not sure with what yet

Chassis was perfect after I cleaned it up after this picture, but due overspray like the body, I gave it a coat of paint.

Gearbox and drive shafts assembly was very dirty

Underside was very good in my opinion

A tiny bit of overspray on the shocks as well

Rear shocks was dirty

Time to clean some parts..

First batch of cleaned parts

Second..

All above pictures was taken in 2016, in my mind I thought it was 17', but was in 16' when I looked back on the picture date.

Chassis was cleaned and painted.
Bolts was painted gold, since they still looked like new ish, but just dull.

Sadly no pics of the chassis atm.

Hope to continue this soon.

Not sure it will be TBG body/wing, or a FAV hybrid as I do have some extra NIB FAV parts.
Wheels are not sure on either.

But I'm thinking of painting it in a white/black theme and get rid of the red.

For the bumper, look for a grasshopper one. They are cheap.

Yes they are, too bad most sellers want more in shipping than the part itself...

Since I'm missing some bits like tires and wheels, I started to test some combos from my parts bin.

Like grey FAV front wheel with tractor truck tire, yes they do fit!
Maybe a solution for making trailer wheels in the future..

For now just helt together with these as I'm a bit short on 2mm hardware

Last bunch of parts are cleaned

Painting gearbox halfes and trailing arms

Styroform did not like my paint lol

I'm terrible to write down a list of what is missing from each project.

As I was not too sure what is missing or not, I assebled my Wild One to see what is worn etc

Wheels will be painted, not sure on color yet.
Rear are CC01 Pajero wheel and tires inspired by one I saw at Tamiyaclub.
Not too sure on the front tires, will see if it grows on me.

I'm going to test this Le Mans 240 motor I got in a deal during this winter

I think these will stay :)
3d printed covers for Axial buckets, made by a norwegian fella, HELLA was big over here in the 80s :)

During the build up, I noticed this:

#Gritty diff, even after shimming and grease.
#Right trailing arm is binding due a repair.
#Missing various hardware - mostly the 3x10mm bolts.
#Missing servo saver and linkage.
#Missing pinion - think I got a spare.
#Missing body.
#Short on front tires.
#Still need to rebuild the shocks - they are just cleaned for now.

Now the dilemma.
I got NOS vintage parts to do a 70% FAV build, missing tires, bumper, blisterpack (driveshafts, uprights, gears among other items), W+S parts and cage.

Do I rob body, front wheels, rear uprights from the vintage FAV lot, or source those items for this build alone, and use the wintage parts for another build?
Mind I allready got both a vintage and re-re FAV in my collection..
