The clean up continues. Well it is about 36 years of crud, old grease and dust to remove. The motor on these had a black rubber balloon on them to protect them. I think the common condition is that the rubber perishes as mine has, so you get a crusty mess to clean off. Most parts are on a second clean and scrub and various objects are being employed to get in all the nooks and crannies. The wheels which I'd painted gold have been sprayed with graffiti remover. I might have a go at peroxide to see if I can whiten them. So that's a job to leave for a while. Hopefully I can get a bit more done in the week. The gear box casings are a dilemma, the gear box joints are held in by small c clips. The normal turn of events is that as you try and remove them, they ping off never to be seen again ( yes I could attempt to do this inside a plastic bag ).As I can't even see them particularly well as it is, I'm of a mind to leave them and just clean everything in situ. Be carefull with those clips...they tend to fly away easily. The use of a magnet will save you long minutes of searching like me Proud owner of the Bruiser Family

After a couple of weeks the final original screw bag turned up today, hurrah !!! So I've got all the screws I'll need to replace the knackered ones. Hopefully I can start rebuilding soon. I got nothing done at the weekend because I was on tail end of a cold and I just didn't feel like doing anything. Attachments: |
