Thirdly, where’s the radio? I wouldn’t expect one in a kit, but why make so many references to 2.4ghz if one isn’t included? You don’t _have_ to use a 2.4Ghz set, a 27Mhz or 40Mhz set would do the job. Even one of those weird frequencies the French use (26 & 41mhz) just to be awkward ;)

Same artwork used for both RTR & kit versions? Poor translation or inadequate text? No listing I could find online mentions a radio, and, again, I wouldn’t expect one in a kit …

I don’t think I’m missing out too badly though ;) I don’t get on with steerwheel TXs, and I really don’t like the gearchange switch on the RTR TX so would have swapped it for a stick set anyway.

I can live without the battery too, although the RTR one looks to be ok – a 1500mAH 2S hardcase “race pack” Lipo. No servos or ESC either, but it does have a motor, of which I know nothing other than it’s 540 sized and black.

Clone, copy or business deal with tamiya, this kit looks to be an awesome built. I'm sure you should be able to do something fun with a remoted light system for example. I am very happy you found this. And cannt wait to see this built Jonny. Wich color you will do it?
And do rims fit on a bruiser mountaineer ? Mine are closer than a puzzle than solid plastic ones.

I remember that when I "built" mine that virtually every part on this is interchangeable with Tamiya trucks. The hardware in these kits I found to be a little cheaper in quality than Tamiya but out of all of the 3 speed trucks I have had made by Tamiya, none shifted as well as this knock off. LOL

Realistically, I know I would never have bought another new Tamiya Bruiser kit at 700 GBP, so this clone didn’t take away a penny from Tamiya. The price differential shows what can be achieved when you don’t have to pay for any development though.

On the other hand, one could say Tamiya is a bit responsible when knock off arrive on the market when they continue to sell kits as much as expensive when they are commercialised for years, and with development fully amortized...
I buy kits to built and ru(i)n them :-)

Jim, that’s a very nice truck, but a bit more monster & Mountaineer than I want to go :)

I took a bit of thought as what to do with it: an HG “boxart” version (black or gunmetal, chrome & “non-infringing” decals ) doesn’t appeal, and a Bruiser copy seems a bit pointless. I was out of RC (the first time around) before the Mountaineer came along, so building a clone of that (just get the load bed spotlight bar & the decals) holds no nostalgia for me.

I did think seriously about a Blazer lookalike, starting with a Clod body & alloy replacement cage/wing setup. I suspect that’s an idea that would be expensive to do right - in which case, why not just buy a proper Blazer, rather than have an expensive tribute? And if I’m not going to do it right, why bother?

For the moment I’m kind of thinking “just a truck” – albeit a lifted one. That chrome sleeper pod _has_ to go, I’d lose the ‘roo bars all round, convert to 12mm hex hubs & use slightly smaller & much narrower wheels. Paint would be a slightly more “everyday” shade of blue, with some modest graphics. I recently bought a Planet TS2+2 radio set so will use that along with a basic Tamiya ESC & a generic light set I have left over from I can’t remember when. A Tamiya 4x4 driver figure, the upfront steering servo mod that everybody does, and a new rear bumper so I can leave the frame intact will round things out.  I may swap the kit motor out for a basic 27T silvercan, just so I know what I’m getting.

I found some inspiration on the net, I’ll post the pics…

Front bumper, paint & graphics from the blue one (but not the topper); matte load bed (or black), brown/beige interior from the red one. Also note the “5 SPEED” and “4 WHEEL DRIVE” decals on the back of the red one – I’m going to have to make up some like that, but “3 SPEED” naturally :D

I like the direction you are taking this is Johnny. RC4WD may be able to help with some of the accessories.
