Hi all, I've recently rediscovered my vintage Rough Rider / Sandscorcher buggies and am not sure what I should do with them as I approach 50! Have fond memories of running and fettling them when I was a kid though. See pics attached.

Thanks

Welcome on board. Your rough rider is very pretty. You could run with it again but carefully because it looks very beatifull :y:

Thank you. Any idea what they might be worth if I was to sell?

:) I paid a lot of spares to build 1 ranger and 1 buggy champ for 80€ but it is not the common price. Yours is complete and with radio gears. You maybe easily sell it up to 300€. But I don' t know the real price.

Hard to see because I have the pics upside down, but from what I can see it's a mk1 chassis (screws on the front holding the springs in place)
To some these are worth some bucks, but if you like the car keep it, get modern electronics (not lipo or brushless) and run it every now and then and

What you have is a very nice memory from your childhood. It also looks like an early "Mk.1" version of the Rough Rider, like Waterbok says. Both the chassis and the two bodies looks to be in excellent shape, showing signs of good care.
If I were you I would keep them.

If you decide to sell, your worst enemy are re-releases of both the Sand Scorcher and the Rough Rider. They have both reduced the value of the vintage ones, although the early ones, like yours, still fetch good money. The vintage Sand Scorcher shell is popular because the re-release did not come with the exact same body.

For selling prices, go to ebay and look for completed/sold listings.

:) I'll keep it too.
Where are the differences between MK1 and other ones (like mine)???

There's a lot of differences, enough for an article I've been wanting for some time now :-)
From the top of my head:
  • Black bumper vs grey bumper
  • Screws for front spring attachment, vs moulded pegs
  • Slimmer front trailing arms
  • Many smaller changes to the rear gearbox
  • Rear A-arms with excess material (later models had material removed inside the outer bearing)

Anyone up for writing a good, illustrated article on this?

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)
