Tribute to stingray's collection (note it's quite crowded). :silly:

I've been following the barn owls that live in the (somewhat of a) nature reserve nearby here. :)
Here's a YouTube vid, I tune in to the live stream regularly though! She's hatching seven eggs at the moment.

Freaking jackdaws start interfering so now the male isn't in the den anymore at night during the day because of the noise the people made removing all the branches these annoying black birds put in again later. But he still brings her mice and what not at night.

They also have a couple of cams up at a falcon's nest. But the birds are just using that as a temporary shelter so far.

Ah, these "tower falcons" as we call them here are actually named kestrels... cool little biological fighter planes. :)
We nursed one of these with a broken wing when I was a kid.

Reading up a bit on the barn owl - and wow, they had pretty much disappeared from this country in the 80s because of various factors. As late as 1998-2000 there were still none around in this province. But nesting places like this, especially created for them, made their numbers go up to around 3000 nationwide again.

The chicks are apparently butt ugly though.

Hey Woodsy Owl, get your big behind away from there! Ah, it doesn't fit. Pfew...

It's about getting time for the eggs to hatch. :)
