right, i am toying with the idea of building a dune buggy style car from scratch.
minimalistic space frame made from copper tube, soldered together. has anyone else undertaken such a project and if so is there any plans available to build a chassis or shall i get my pencil and paper out? the suspension should be easy enough to sort out, maybe getting a gearbox/motor set up may cause a few problems. something along this design.... |

Yes, like it, do it! Please don't use that colour though, it makes it look like that Watanabe Hornet!
see if you can find the real thing & measure it, or download a side+front+rear+top pic & print it on graph paper & scale it, Or have a look about & see if you can find plans for a DIY real one & scale those

yeah, got a chassis design in mind. small cockpit stubby kind of front end with BIG exposed shocks.
rear wheel drive probably with a modified hopper gearbox set up as its easy to mount and motor/gearbox is all one combined unit. modified hopper front suspension wish bones. probably stock hopper wheels to start with but will probably upgrade fairly quickly |

Sounds good.
I had a look around for a rear DF-01 gearbox but no luck there. That would have also been a good basis. Just have one for the front that's broken... and of no use, even if it weren't. When you're using your own design, you could really upgrade the rear suspension compared to the Grasshopper. Some sand paddles like on the picture of the FOFF would be nice... |
