The above picture is of the original/vintage model (a prototype actually). You can see the "Sand Blaster JR" text on the fromt tires, and the bonnet screws are the same as on the prototype in the old catalogs.
I must say I have mixed feelings about these reissues.... It's very good for the average RC enthousiast, making more people aware of the hobby. But, I am not sure how good a sign it is for Tamiya. Making reissues instead of making something new? I don't know... -Lars Signature now gets correct formatting if you edit it in your Profile. Use normal BBcode if you want.

I'm all for Re-Re cars. But I think they should keep them as close as possible to the originals.
Maybe cast some sort of identification on each part, to distinguish them from the originals, and stay away from Holiday Buggy type Re-Re's. Tamiya should be producing new models along side the Re-Re's also. |

This FAV is a great car, so I don't mind it being rereleased!
Who wouldn't wanna drive this around : Lots of Tamiya fans would be glad to finally get some easy to find parts if a car is rereleased. And take the fact that having a complete car is less rare for granted. Releasing a car and calling this a rerelease (like the Holiday Buggy) while the car has almost nothing to do with the original is a bit of a scam. That's just leeching of the brand name if you ask me... |

I'll agree to that, if they reuse the name and brand of an old classic, it should be true to the original as well. In my opinion (a selvfish one) Tamiya should mnake small alterations to the reissue parts (fixing old mistakes and adapting to new technology) but these changes should be minimal ond only visible to the interrested RC enthousiast. The Sand Scorcher reissue is a good example of that. -Lars Signature now gets correct formatting if you edit it in your Profile. Use normal BBcode if you want.
