Beaten up mud blaster shell 2 years 4 months ago #69692

Hi, I've just won a beaten up mud blaster off ebay, not arrived yet but it has some pretty serious damage to the front wheel arch.
Looks kinda melted to me. Just looking for some ideas to fixing or rebuilding the wheel arch, what would you do?

This is the best photo I have of it until it arrives.

It's not just the wing, it's the grille piece too :( And a big crack in the bonnet.

I think that's too much to build from scratch, so you either find another body that's broken in different places & do a cut & shut, or get new body & nose & swap the glass & tailgate over.

Or get a Lexan body (as included in the Brat re-re).

Another alternative, repaint & then artfully weather that corner to look like crash damage.

TBH though, I don't know if you want a boxart Mud Blaster, but without spending a lot of money it's still going to be a shed - so I'd stick a Beetle body on it, call it a "Mud badword" & have fun with it in circumstances you'd be worried to ruin/get dirty something better :D

Mad Max or zombie apocalypse style mods would also be appropriate under the circumstances..

Thanks, there's some nice ideas there to think about.
I was wondering if the plastic can be heated in boiling water & reshaped into its basic shape & rebuilt with some kind of filler.
Plenty to think about. 🤔

This what I've got so far, I beat it into submit ion with a paint stripping gun, shaved the plastic as flat as I could with a Stanley knife  backed it with some plasticsrd & rebuilt it with milliput.
I don't think it will survive a crash but it should look OK on display.
Detailing this body is a complete pain, hopefully it'll pay off.
Excuse the colour, its all I could find in the shed. 😬

Wow very nice job !
You were brave to follow that path!
I would have gotten a body shop to cut out the parts and replace them.
Anyway, great result!

Well it's finally finished, the stickers are abit iffy, got them off ebay but not really worth the money.
I'm pretty pleased how it turned out. Just need to find a new window for it as it's cracked in a couple of places.
