does anyone know where to get the 15t pinion gear for a wild one?

That might be at tough one. Unfortunately I was mistaken in giving info on this before.
I know the parts number for you but they are scarce.
And despite a extensive search, I was not able to recover it's official dimensions.
I don't think it's the 32 pitch pinion you referred to either.

Vintage Sand Rover - gears

Maybe someone knows an alternative. If a 16T will fit for example :

I don't think that I'd want to go any faster than a 19 turn brushed motor in a vintage Tamiya

the rz is a 23 turn engine :)

It think JR meant to say that a 19T would be the limit for a Wild One, not that the RZ is that many turns. ;)

Btw - do you still want to sell or trade the RZ? If you don't, we'd better move the topic to technical. :)

i'm still not absolutly sure if i should sell/trade it.
i think i will just keep it and use a 15t pinion gear with it.
it could actually go faster because it will be easier to run the engine. i know it will have more torque, so that is good.
but the problem is finding a gear

Sounds sensible to keep it. ;)

The 15T pinion will surely turn up at some point.
In the meantime a 16T would also mean a significant improvement in torque.
Can't actually think of a reason why it wouldn't fit. :silly:

You're are using the 18T now right?

Btw - don't know if you noticed but you're on Google's first page for a search on "Tamiya Wild One" at the moment.

Yes, living on Dutch soil. :)
Seems you have a bit of Wild One fame on the other side of the world!

No difference in spelling "Tamiya Wild One" in Dutch. ;)
But I did use Google.nl so that could account for the difference in search result.

It's not your thread on TB but the page on "instructables" btw that hit the charts...
Probably because you put that link in your video topic.

Australian Google puts you on the second page :

@zephyrin : I've moved the topic to technical and made the title more appropriate.
If you want, you can edit the text in the first post a bit so it will apply more.
Assuming you will be keeping the Super Stock... :)

I can - the holes motor mount screws fit through are just that - holes - not slots, so unless you want to take a Dremel or file to the gearbox, the gearing choices are limited to 15 or 18 teeth.

Did anyone get to the bottom of the pinion pitch issue? There seems to be a real lack of information as to what pinions will fit each car, and what pitch they are, which makes it a real problem anyone wants to replace or change a pinion ... maybe we can do something about that ...

In the meantime, from the manaual it looks like the Wild One gearbox internals are a frog style diff ... assuming that's the case & the gear pitch doesn't change on the counter gear, then it's 0.8 mod metric pinions the Wild one needs - 32dp pinions are reckoned by most to also fit well enough to use.

Thanks for providing the info on the 16T. I'll have to take a look at that.
I for one find this a tough subject...

Agree on the lack of info. Maybe we can start a topic with an overview. :-)
Should be quite the labour though but a great resource.

Think you are right about 32dp and 0.8 module matching most.
Altough all metric and standard differ. Switching them would probably only be recommended for low rpm.

It would really be brilliant to finally get a definite answer to the buggy pinion question...
