Tamiya Boomrang Re Release 13 years 3 months ago #332

hi guys

just finished building my re release boomerang. first one i have owned just wondered i have noticed a small amount of wobble in the front wheels when running the car off the ground when i pick it up? anyone else experienced this before with the boomerang? checked the manual three times and everything is put together correctly? i noticed someone else on a different forum mentioned the same thing is this a known issue? it goes away once the car is on the floor and the front arms are straighter?

baffled

When lifted, the "angle of attach" for the dogbones to the drive cups are to the extreme of what the model can do. The dogbones and drive cups will then make some vibration.

The wobble should make no difference when driving, though. Remember the technology is 15 years old.. ;)

G'Day from Oz, I also have re-re boomerang I also had an original that I used to race years ago. I found that the drive slots of the cups at the gearbox end were not deep enough, I confirmed this by comparing to an old one that I have. Its only about 1mm or so differance. I filed mine problem solved it tracks perfectly when turning. Hope this helps. regards

I suppose if you weren't happy filing the cups, you could instead add short pieces of rubber tube to the damper shaft inside the dampers, (say 3mm long, between piston & bottom of damper)to lower the ride height (thus decreasing the dogbone angles)

I have a 20+ year old boomerang with a few probs, can i replace the
bearings in the housing with ball bearings ? do the pot couplings still
hold in the ball bearings ?

For sure. Replace every plastic bush with a bearing.
You'll be amazed at the difference it will make.
I ballraced my original Falcon recently, and it is definately the first mod anyone should do.
I have another set of bearings in the mail for my other Falcon, and when my Boomerang gets delivered, I'll be ballracing that too! ;)

just what i wanted to hear :-) thanks.

i have a minor problem with the gearbox drive joint coming loose
i think the bearing in the gearbox is warn and lets the circlip
pass through it so the joint comes out, i'm hoping the new bearings
will sort it.

Unfortunately i lost one of the tiny circlips on the drive joint
anyone know where i can get one from ? or can i use these without
them interfering with the gears.

If I understand the part you mean correctly it should be in here :

tinyurl.com/5s6swx7

You can also go to a local hardware store. They might have such a 4mm circlip too.
If you bring the drive joint, you could check if the size is right straight away.
As long as it's not touching anything (especially the bevel gear) you should be be alright.

But we're kind of hijacking the other member's topic.
Although I think his question was answered...

Edit : I looked at the rere and although it's a slightly different set up, for this the bigger circlip that you linked to is used.
So I don't think you'll need to buy the whole (expensive) parts bag.
