Lunchbox suspension trouble 13 years 6 months ago #81

I've had problem with the rear suspension on my Lunchbox. The little springs that keep the rear assembly level snapped. So I installed a TT-01 shock on the back. At the same time I install the oil filled shocks.

What a car...

Nice. I like the colour scheme.

yup - this is the well known "3rd shock mod" (or 5th, if you prefer ;)) - your rear end should be significantly less bouncy now :)

Nice paintjob btw - suits the stickers surprisingly well :)

Thanks guys, and yes it is a lot bouncy. It doesn't make that knocking noise when you brake.

Acouple of suggestions: you could swap the slotted suspension mounts for grasshopper 1 ones (You'd lose the 'live axle'/independent working of the rear suspension, but it'll get it all under control). OR if you get some piano (spring steel) wire, it can be wrapped around a suitably sized screwdriver shaft to MAKE a new spring. I've done this before & it works well, especially if you choose some slightly thicker wire to make slightly stronger springs, which stop the back end clonking around. Option 3 is to carefully drill the slotted mounts (in line...) & fit self tapping screws into the round bit of the gearbox that sits in the slots, if you get me - you end up with the same result as fitting grasshopper mounts
