Cheetah Tyres 12 years 11 months ago #956

Need some new tyres for my Cheetah, originals have now perished.

I don't need originals, just ones that will fit the small wheels and are roughly the same size:

Tire width (front and rear): 29mm Tire diameter (front/rear): 75mm

Wheel 44mm

Any suggestions ?

Hi,

The size you are looking for (1.7") is not very common.
But I think Tamiya Brat tyres might fit :

Little bit of extra width won't matter - they are also a little taller but I think they'll fit inside the Cheetah wheel arches.
Converting 1.9" could also be an option :

Does the Cheetah have 3-piece rims? That might make it a little more specific.

Edit - I see in the manual (we are at TamiyaBase!) it does. But does not necessarily mean the Brat tyres won't fit.
I'll take a look at the XR311. Maybe it shares tyres. Think there's a rerelease too.

I did - and they're hard to find also.
So I would say the Brat tyres are your best bet.

Brat tyres are too big, I have some on the rear of my Frog for on-road running. Frog front tyres are also too big, slightly.

The inner part of the 3 piece wheel is 44mm. The outer part is only 34mm. 1.34 inches.

I have tried to source XR311 re-release tyres without luck.

Wow - looks like you've tried most choices already. :S
The older vintage all have special wheel hub connections.
If you could find some 12mm hex adapters, that would increase your options.
I know they exist for Hornet/Grasshopper/Frog (#53913) - this worked perfectly on my vintage Hopper.

Good luck - If I come up with anything else, I'll post it here.

:)

Edit - just as an example, these low profile 1.9" would fit inside the arches :

So with tyres you could come close to the 75mm outer diameter.
That would shift the "problem" from finding the right tyres to fitting different rims.
But with the right adapter that will give you a lot more options.

I'm always curious to solve questions like these, but it seems an adapter is not really an option here either.
The Cheetah has very distinctive wheel hubs :

Which would mean the rims are not a variable.
On line I did not (yet) find an alternative solution.
Guess cutting down some Hummer tyres is not a far-fetched idea.

Another idea that's "out there" could be to drill a tiny hole for the small hex shaft en directly fit some 12mm hex washers.
Better not to use the pin type then but the sort than can be tightened on the axle. Like Q3 in the picture.
If this procedure is not considered vintage sacrilege...

Losi Mini T and Associated RC18MT have 1.3 inch rims. They both have monster truck tyres available with a high profile.

So I might give these a try .....

When you find an appropriate solution, post it here if you want...
I'm curious and could maybe help out other people with the info later.

Thanks beforehand and good luck with finding the right wheels. :)

Tough one this Cheetah-riddle...

You might have another option now with the new FAV tyres :
