Hi all.

New to the forum but not new to Tamiya products !

I have just been given back my original built by me in 1976 Tyrrell P38 58003 that i gave a frend to look after then forgot all about it !, he found it in his garrage all boxed up and still looking quite good, in the box is also a original extra body kit but less the rear wing !
Wow so please to see it for and get it back for sure, it needs a few things doing to it but i am finding it almost imposable to find the parts i need so need some help.
I am looking for a new unused if possable complete rear wing with sides, i have the original ones but as you can imagine being only 13 when i painted it its not to the best !
Also looking for new rear tyres as the originals have flat spots where its been standing, are the tyres the same as the re-reissue ???.
Also need a new set of decals as i am going to completely rub down the body and re-paint in two pack high gloss (plastic safe paint off course !)
I do have a spare new un-touched body but dont want to use it unless i really have to, but it less rear wing.
Also need a battery for it also and cant seem to find any 6v nicads around, will 7.2 be ok for stock 380 motor ???
Any help much appreciated, oh and great forum by the way !

Hi Tez - welcome on the forum! :)

Using a 7.2V battery pack won't be a problem. ;)
And here is a link to some good quality decals :

I'll also take a look if I can find some more answers...

Welcome on board erb777 :)

I'm sure 7.2v will be ok for the electrics ... the problem is the arrangement of the cells in the pack - most 7.2v batteries are two rows of three cells end to end, and I'm not sure that will fit, as the battery meant for your car was 5 cells side by side.

Have a look at the 6v packs at Vapextec , I've had lots of their batteries & would recommend them.

IIRC the P34 was re-released recently, but how much is compatible I don't know ... at least the wing is mostly a few simple flat planes so you could always make one - at least it's not a modern F1 car with all the 3 dimensional winglets & excresences they chuck on now ;)

Jonny has a good point there of course - with the difference in size.
I was only taking the extra voltage on the 380 into account...
It will go faster with a sixpack though!

Must be a treat to get your car back again after so long. :)

You cant imagine how i felt to get it back after so long, just really need to get the rear fin set and a new set of rear tyres, once i have them i will start the restoration !
Something in the back of my mind tells me the reissue has the same tyres as the 58003, that true anyone ! ?
ill post some pics some also !

I checked but it's not a replica. The reissue is on the F103 chassis.
Which is a very cool chassis but not a match for the rear wheels... :(

There's an interesting auction going on btw :

I believe they do :) I have not tried myself, but I have seen others use the new tires on the vintage one.

I thought they didn't match - the 58003 has a grooved rim and the F103 uses (flangeless) foam tyres...
