Tamiya revives the Racing Master series 12 years 6 months ago #3514

AS discussed in THIS THREAD , Tamiya will revive the Racing Master series.
For now, we only know about the Toyota Toms, which is great news.
The chassis is newly design, and named RM-01.
It features a 380 motor, rear wheel drive. It's 1/12 scale and have wheels that look very similar to the original RM5/6/7 models. (Porsche 956, Newman and Toms)

Here is the first picture available, taken from a Tamiya Corp video:

I'm very curious about this chassis. A new design is always very interesting.
From the description it sounds like it's meant for driving around "nicely" more than for speed...
But I'm guessing you could make it a very slick runner out of this.
Looking forward to the cool bodies Tamiya could release for it. B)

I agree, it looks very good. I like the 1/12 scale, and the chassis seem to give some tribute to the old RM chassis.

Re: Tamiya revives the Racing Master series 12 years 5 months ago #4151

This is simply a great move by Tamiya. :cheer:
I immediately start looking at the hop ups possibilities...
It's already got turnbuckles - reminding me of my own Group C build - and a mid servo.
But a damper that's just begging to be upgraded.
And I'd fix the wiring a bit more.

My understanding of the Tamiya history is kind of being rewritten with this car.
I thought Group C and F chassis were the natural evolution of the RM but they're a different branch in the family now...

Btw - also notice the blue lock nuts!

Nice looking just like the old RM series.
I can't wait to see what the 'NEW' Toyota Celica LB GR.5 TURBO [kit# 09] comp. special looks like!
At least now I don't have to worry about driving my old originals!
But a TT-01E chassis??
I guess its going to be a lexan body and bigger then the original??
Re-issued Lambo sister car and chassis I guess?
Anyone have any info on this??

That reminds me... You know how Tamiya have a habit of re-releasing their vintage models, just to make the originals worth nothing on Ebay, there's been a few B2Bs cropping up on there lately, including a NIB body kit... Anybody know if this is their next planned re-release? - similar scenario to just prior to the High lift series release, when all of a sudden there were lots of 'Mountaineer' body kits about

I doubt the B2B will appear again, but you never know...
The market for a new B2B just seem so narrow to me. It is no longer a well known racing class and the handling is not optimal.

Re: Tamiya revives the Racing Master series 12 years 5 months ago #4210

Eddrick your awesome!
I could'nt agree MORE!
Each re-issue kills off that cars market for collector values.
I've mentioned this before.
Of course then you get the response; 'its not Tamiya's fault' -always- comes up.
Its not Tamiyas fault.
Its all about marketing.
Tamiya build great cars and its kool to have the old cars back to go play with.
Instead of just sitting in a NIB box or you can look at it on a shelf. Boring!

BUT Each time, they or anyone remakes any; old out-of-production anything....
THE once high value of the old original item goes to nothing! duh!

IE; A guy on ebay USA wants like $2500 for his NIB Sand Scorcher kit.
In 2006-08 it might of sold for like $5000usd!?
I've watched several go for crazy $$$$$ in the past.
Now, no ones even looking at it.

I've brought up the B2B sidecar reissue idea....
I have three Tamiya b2b's.
I would love to either rebuild one with a custom chassis using new parts or do a huge nitro 1/4 scale one!
Lars is right, it[b2b] was a niche' market item from the beginning.
But so were some of Tamiyas past cars.
Like the WILLY's jeep and the Honda turbo-CITY WHEELER.
But now they come up with a release of a wheeler-type VW HIPPY bus!? uhg

I kinda like the Sand Rover streeter car.
Its like the old 1970's American TV cartoon; ''SPEED BUGGY'' dune buggy! LOL
Several of my friends mentioned....
it'd be cool to have it and do a 'SPEED BUGGY' replica.
Bolt in a hott motor and beat the gutts out of it! :cheer:

I wish someone would tell Kyosho; time for re-issues! :woohoo:
