CC-01 Rear Axle Diff Oil 2 years 6 months ago #68690

Dear Tamiya friends, I am currently building a custom 2WD RC Pickup with the CC-01 rear axle. The diff is too loose for my purposes, The wheels on this rear wheel drive truck spin free too often when I am going into a turn.

Any experience with heavy diff oil in the cc-01 diff? Is it oil tight? What modification do I need to make it oil tight?

As always, thanks so much for your help.

You can use heavy grease for 1/1 bearings and put a lot of it. Or lock the diff directly with the 2 tiny parts sold in the kit.

I doubt you can make it oil tight :(

What sting' suggested, or use Tamiya AW grease (the thick silver stuff) :)

Alright, I'll try it!
Thanks for sharing your experience, it saved me from making a big oily mess on my workbench

Cheers

A long time ago, I used marin grease in my Wrangler. (The first gen in 94 and I abused it) I like hard diffs. And it still works

I lock every CC01 diff with either rubber band cut to 2-3mm pices, to make some sort of LSD diff, or completly lock them using hot glue.
Have done 100s of miles with them locked and non of them have broken so far.
Hot glue can be removed late if toy want to take it back to standard open diff operation.

That is some ingenuity with the rubber band, thanks for sharing :-) What is an LSD diff? (sorry)

That is some ingenuity with the rubber band, thanks for sharing :-) What is an LSD diff? (sorry)

LSD stands for Limitid Slip Differential and in the real world that is controlled by either small clutch disc's (Ford among others), they can have springs inside or some sort of cogs that ramps up and when the needed force is met, the diff automaticly locks to give equal traction to both sides.

If you mainly plan on driving on loose surfaces on trails etc, I recomend locking the diffs.
You won't notice the diff is locked.
