Tamiya "Original Body" build 8 years 9 months ago #34893

I thought I'd have a go at the Tamiya "Original Body" that appeared in most RC Guide Books between 1987 and 1993:

Plans scanned in, resized, printed out & stuck on styrene sheet:

... and cut out:

Front wings (fenders) complete:

... and front end built up:

Working on fake air intakes - a lot of the build is guesswork & I later found these bits were in the wrong place :(

Back end mostly done:

Sticking the two halved together - fit of parts is not great throughout, not helped here by bits in the wrong place:

Roof on, 2nd batch of filler/epoxy putty curing:

Nice work Jonny. I've never seen these before. I take it they fit directly onto a chassis.

 I remember this body. It's a free interpretation of a mariage of 1 dmc delorean and 1 testarossa. Nice Jonny :y:

The chassis it's built on in the guide book is the 58049 Toyota Tom's 84C & has front body post holes marked in the plans, the rear post points aren't marked but I guess that's to allow for slight differences in fit, the instructions (such as they are) call for marking & drilling them yourself.

I don't plan to fit this to a chassis as the chances of getting a decent vintage RM chassis at a price I'd want to pay are very slim, and the modern M-chassis are all way too tall. A Schumacher GT12 (www.fusionhobbi...6-cell-kit) is a possibility though ...

I was thinking more Matra Bagheera/512 Berlinetta Boxer myself ;)

The truck you're thinking of was the 1/24 Toyota Hiace Quick Delivery kit being modified to fit a Tamtech chassis.

I do remember this ;) having an RM Porsche with a battered body back then, I dreamed of making one of these to fit it B) But then, like now I don't think I posses the skills required
Nicely done JR :y:
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

I don't know what a good price would be but there's a guy, big gaz on modelsport forum selling a tidy rm chassis. This may be of some interest to you :y:

Thanks, I had a look but that's the wrong era & more than twice what I'd be looking to pay ... nice low chassis though :)
