Painting "soft" plastics 8 years 3 months ago #36433

Calling out to JonnyR or anyone else in the know......

I have a Kyosho Ultima roll cage that I want to paint yellow.
The roll cage is of a rather soft and "oily" black plastic, not unlike the roll cage of eg. the Hotshot, but not really THAT soft. What kind of paint should I use, and how do I get it to stick?

Any ideas, y'all?
Tom

Hi Tom, I painted some weeks ago a light brown fav roll cage. 1 good cleaning disgreasing with dish soap, 1 or 2 layers of primer and 1 or 2 layers of red spray. It looks to be ok. No bubble, nor cracks.

What kind of spray did you use?

:) I used these sprays ;) classic universal primer, and RAL 3001 fire red industrial acrylic paint.

in a few days, next week I hope, I will try to "primer " on a lexan body to paint outside with this surface primer after a bad reaction with graffiti remover  on a dirt thrasher body...

TommieG - I'd suggest keying the surface (400 to 600 grit paper) and a specific "plastic" primer - if you were in the UK i'd suggest Hycote Plastic primer (e.g. www.ebay.co.uk/...2082325000).
