Hi all

Im new to this site. I had the Tamiya Grasshopper in 1989 when i was just a wee lad and loved it. I then had the King Blackfoot back in 1996/1997 and that was just awesome. I still have the Blackfoot but need new dampers and havent a clue what to get? Help...?

I have just bought the Thundershot (re-release I think) and it arrived yesterday. Its pretty cool i must say but i just feel it could be faster. Can anyone tell me how to make it faster? brushless motor etc? and if i fit a brushless motor, do i need to change the ESC?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, welcome on board :)

The King Blackfoot manual suggests the 53037 Hi-Cap Damper (Short) (92mm) or 50520 Short Shock Unit Set II (94mm) as upgrades ... but a set of 4 will cost, well, more than I'd want to pay anyway. Searching eBay for 90mm shocks (at bit too short, but close enough) shows a few options - anything will be better than the kit pogo sticks anyway ;)

There are lots of optiosn for making a car go faster - how fast to you want to go, and what's your budget?

A full set of metal bearings (around 15 GBP) won't add much to the speed but are essential IMO, especially once you start talking faster motors;

A Tamiya "Sport Tuned" motor will add about 25% to your speeed for about 25 GBP, and you can (probably) keep the existing ESC;

A brushless combo (motor, ESC, programming card) will be about 75 GBP, speed increase is up to you, I think a "13T" set woudl give a good balance between speed & not breaking too much. A 5.5T set will turn your car into a missile, but you'll lunch the gearboxes quickly, and hitting something will result in carnage :y:

Upgrading to LiPo batteries will add 5-10% more speed, but is not so good value - a couple of packs, the specialist charger & power supply needed wil be around 100 GBP.

I'd start with bearings & the Sprot Tuned motor & see how you go :)

Hi there!

I've customized an original Blackfoot and used some YR Dampers, ordered anywhere in Asia:

If you don't want to use the original one, than have a look at the bay or asiatees.com and you'll find some with same lenghts.

Welcome Mr grumpy with a user name like that we will have a lot in common :laugh:

Re release Thundershot is a nice car B) make sure you replace the A5 part with a reinforced metal replacement if you plan to run it its a real weak point in the chassis.

Some pics would be ace :woohoo:
