Hi Edou,

Here is the work in progress!!

I've had a look at all the other gears and can't see much wear, also taken the motor out and it looks like the motor bracket is undamaged, so not sure what's happened.

I'm using the kit 21T pinion on the kit motor, double checked the positioning of the motor on the motor bracket and it seems to be in the correct place.

On your project, did you use "Yeah Racing" or "GPM" Hop-ups?

Guess the spur got worn by normal use then. :cheer:
A little TLC will indeed give this car a great second life.

Most of the hop ups on my chassis are GPM which is actually my favourite aftermarket brand..
Damper length is custom so these are from Yeah Racing.

The set of turnbuckles (not the ones on the picture) I installed are 3Racing btw.
They have a very nice assortment of titanium parts. B)

The blue wheel washers are Tamiya! Hard to find the original alloy upgrades they made them themselves.

This is what I did with my TA02:

Never was much good on the track, so I made it go off road...

My spur gear was also worn, I think the motor mount some how worked a bit lose. Cause the screws where about 2 threads unscrewed when I striped the chassis. And another thing is bushings. I noticed quite a bit of play in the gearbox. Changed all the bushings to bearings, and no more play...

Cool car! Sounds like a solid upgrade you did! :cheer:

Getting a GPM alloy motor mount is a really good (and simple) improvement.
It will never break and cools the motor better because of the ribs.
You can also use a little lock bond (metal on metal) so it doesn't get loose...

This is what I started my project with - putting in time really pays off :

I've spent more money on bearings than on models. I buy them for cheap, and rebuild them with new bearings and grease. My TA03 only cost R350 ($50) and that's with the remote charger and 2 batteries. I then spent R300 ($45) on bearings and Tamiya grease.

Same here more or less - I paid about 30 euro for the Manta Ray and the multiple of that on hop ups... :S

Just remembered I replaced the original mechanical speed controller with an LRP Runner, I guess this is ok to use with the kit motor?

Order has been placed for a bearing set, Skyline speed tuned gear and GPM motor mount :)

LRP ESC is probably an overkill for a standard 540 Johnson. But no reason it won't work.

Maybe I need a motor upgrade too :)
