Hi, I thought I better start this build now before too much goes into other posts.

So this is how the Blackfoot arrived, the box was wrapped in Christmas paper as well because I picked it up in January a couple of years ago.

Here’s what was inside.

At this point all I really knew about this car is that it was the ORV chassis from the Brat and Frog, with some huge wheels and tyres stuck on it.
It seems like a lot of strain to put through the gear box.

But at this point I’d only really bought it for the body shell, the front grill and the rear tailgate.

It came with some yellow wheels and tyres, but only 2 fronts and a spare set of wheels.

I’ve been picking up parts over the last year or two in order to be able to complete the build.
I would consider this truck “ modern “ in terms of the Tamiya rc cars I currently have.
There are a couple of major exceptions ( Ford High Lift and Lancia 037 ), but everything else is in the lower 50’s of the first 100.

The first bits I picked up were to fix the clearly broken front uprights.
But when this lot turned up, even one them was broken as well.

So then I managed to pick up a complete set.

I picked up a full set of original shocks.

Body mounts.

MSC- I’m pretty certain this is the correct one for this model.

And because the PO had sprayed the chassis I’ve just got a brand new red chassis parts set.

Finally I’m hoping these are the correct steering rods and servo saver, pulled out a spares box.

By the looks of that dark grey chassis color, I think you have a King BF chassis there!

So yesterday was the tear down of the chassis.
There were quite a few rusty screws which are now all soaking in oil to see what can be rescued.
And today I started giving everything a clean.

A good soak in a bowl of hot water and a scrub with a cheap toothbrush.
The metal parts will get a polish, I gave them a bit of a rub down with soft wet and dry.

And all the oily bits got a spray of engine degreaser and finally a clean as well.
Everything has come up pretty well so far and apart from having to cut off one screw it hasn’t thrown up anything too nasty.

Hi Jim, when I first saw it, I thought the same. I know Tamiya have done alternative colours of some parts.
But looking at this pictures, it’s not dark grey, it’s more of a green/blue.
And I think that’s the red plastic visible in the screw holes.

Cheers Flo.
This ORV chassis has been a mini education, working on my Brat build and now this Blackfoot.
I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite chassis, but it does provide a better understanding working on them.

Take care.

I prefer the old frog it looks heavier and more compact with the small wheeles.
