Great idea, looks loads better than having that spazzy 4x4x4 plastered all over its face!
A slight concern (Not for me, I couldn't give a monkey's) - if it's this easy to make a new shell look like an expensive mk1 vintage one, could there be issues determining what's real & what's fake in the vintage collectibles market?

It would be very easy to fool the lesser educated. On eBay I would ask for pics of the inside where the part #'s are and look for the plastic compound markings. If I were ever to sell this one I'd describe it as a vintage clone.
