Richard's Escort MkII build - TL01 ish based. 3 years 2 months ago #64253

I have seen several other that have shortned a TL01, some of them seems a bit wonky where they are glued together, I don't want that.
So today I cut down a 6mm aluminium tube and located it in the propeller groove in the chassis to make sure it straight up and down, and sideways.
Used a bit of styrene scrap to make a hold down clamp at each end where the propeller gear cover usually sits.

Then I made some aluminium brackets that will work as reinforcement pieces for the joint.
Have glued them in with epoxy and are now waiting it to fully cure before I can attach the rear part of the chassis.

Some hours later the epoxy has dried.
These are the reinforcement plates I made, think it's 0.8mm

Looking from the side. There is not a lot of room on the rear section, so this is all there is room for before it bottoms against the motor "cage".

Tested the rear section and it was a good tight fit. very tight infact.
Rear section is now glued in and I made sure to glue it up as straight as possible.
I hope the it went as good as the front section
Tomorrow I hope I can take the chassis halfes apart and glue the rest if there is any need.

Think this will be good.
I used 30min Zap Z-Poxy, it does not shrink and is shock restistant which is good on a chassis

WOW Lemsko!!

That Escort driver was brilliant
Nearly all others seemed slow compared to him.
Some of them even seemed like they could not drive or could  use their mirrors!

BDA engines are awesome, and those engines also propelled the Zakspeed Capri in twin or single turbo variants of 1400 or 1700 engine, depending on class.
600hp from such little engine is amazing (qualifiying setup)

Chassis is now glued together.
It's very rigd, don't think this will come apart at all.

And it looks as it got as straight as I could make it.

On the inside the chassis looks like this.

After I took these pictures I added some more epaxy on the inside to make sure this will never come aparth while driving.

Next I will sand when needed and give the epoxy and the aluminium bits some paint to hide it.
Other than that I can begin to assemble it.

The rear diff will be locked, it's a rally car after all.
I will try it in rwd setup first to see if it will be like I hope it will.

Nice work Richard, that's not easy to do, keeping the chassis straight.
