If you can't see capacitors on the outside of a modern, volume production motor, they're almost certainly on the inside :)

I had a motor like it. I always had maters with it. Upoer consumption and less power than a basic 540

The problem with standard HPI and Traxxas motors, the do draw more power and has less output than a standard Tamiya silvercan motor.
I try to avoid usen those motors in any vehicle.

If you want more speed than a silvercan 540, I recomend a sport tuned motor.
In some vehicles you will surprised what a sport tuned one will do.
I for sure was when I installed one in my MO2 many years ago,

Oh on the outside, that’s quite basic soldering, I just want something ready to run though really

Trying to research the Tamiya cans

Do different end bell colours mean anything?

I think for my use a Tamiya Mabuchi will do I just don’t know why some are different colours, and I guess the j is Johnson

For the standard Mabuchi 540, the color of the end bell really just tells you how old it is. Shouldn't make any difference in performance.

Like said Richard, the sport tuned is awesome. I tried big motors on my ff01 (a13x3) and the best is the sport tuned. Autonomie+ power.
HPI and ansmann motors are like said me jonny one time "take wires and put them in the trashcan."
