Richard's 6x6 build from left over parts. 1 year 4 months ago #73417

My health has been rubbish this Christmas.
So today I wanted to cheer myself with some quality hours in the mancave.

The snowplow mount got drilled and tapped so for clearance I can use bolts from the backside.
When that was done I grabbed some TLT suspension mounts that I have plenty of, and fitted those to the mount.
Added a servo with servotape for mockup.
Bottom "links" are a RPM Traxxas Rustler rear arm I hade in my spare parts bin.
Added a TL01 c-hub where the swing mounts will be fitted and made a upper link.
The latter needs to be shortned and the chassis mount needs to be moved down so the upper link will be as long as lower arm so the plow will just move up and down.
Servo linkage will be replaced by a damper to make the plow be able to follow the surface without damaging the servo itself.

Idea is something ike this.

When plow is lifted it will look like this.
As you see the upper link needs to be shortned and mounts on chassis side moved down so the plow will not tilt when lifted.
Also need to buy a new servo because most of my servos has not enough torque for this task.
Need to located some aluminium servo mounts as well.

Should just take a few days to make it ready for test phase.
There is rain right now so the remaining snow will be very wet.
Cross my fingers it will dry up when the snow and ice is gone so we can get cold weather again and then proper snow.

Thank you very much.
Unfortunatley been not too well all year, but autumn worse and now right before xmas I had to take two trips to Oslo which takes me 12h or more each time.
That along with Christmas duties, just worsen my ME. But has been resting alot so hopefully I get better soon.

Came to think I need at least 3 channels for this.
Only 3ch transmitter I own is my TacTic TTX300 I use in my SCX10 Rod. I don't want to rob the receiver from that one.
That receiver runs on the DSMR system.
Well, looking for DSMR recivers was a bit ugh as the cheapest 3ch is 46 quid and some, 2ch is much cheaper.

I do have a trusty LRP A2 STX which is 2ch, that runs on the FHSS sysytem and the 2ch receiver is about the same as the one for the DSMR or cheaper.
But then I only have 2 channels still..

Third option is to purchase a new handset and my LHS has the Spektrum SLT3. This cost only 9 quid more than the DSMR 3ch receiver alone.
Plus is that I really like this handset, already installed one for my mate and his sons car a while back.
And the SLT3 runs the FHSS system so the receivers is plentyful and cheap ish if I need another one. The HPI RF-50N receiver is one example and cost 23 quid at my LHS.
Local to me is an online hobby shop that sells 6ch FHSS receiver for less than 25 quid if my LHS runs out of cheap ones..
Most of my collection needs radio system anyway, and 2.4 FHSS is the system to go for I think.

So think my next purchase is the Spektrum SLT3 handset and the Spktrum S614 servo at 14.5kg. Servo is listed at a tad over 24 quid.
This is less than 80 quid in total.
Spektrum servo was the most torque vs the cost.

Edit: Just bought two DSM2 receivers on ebay for 15 quid less than at my LHS.
Just have to wait 4 weeks or so before they arrive...
Only needed now is one servo..

Hi Richard, I love your attitude to life.
I don’t think many of us can appreciate what you have to deal with day to day. But you are such a positive person on the forum.

Oh, you're too kind!
I try to keep my head upright as much as possible.
Being stubborn has helped on the way for sure, me thinks.

Today I has made the the snowplow functional.

Upper link mount moved and new link made.
Also made a side support bar.

Plow lifted

The nearest link is the side support bar.

From above

The servo is now secured by regular Tamiya servo mounts.
Want to swap those out for aluminium ones later.
We are getting snow in a couple of days so I might test it then.

Erlier today I swapped out the receiver for my 3ch TacTic one that I have borrowed from my SCX10 build.

Think I need to add a speed reducer to this

Have been plowing a bit today as we got snow last night, but the C hub broke on the plow mount so I need to fix that.
Problem I can find a spare TL01 one in my parts bin, so I need to figure out how to solve this.

Oh and I did put the rig in winter mode lol
Need to buy another pair

Chains is Fastrax ones to fit 115-120mm tires. The included hooks did now work for my tires. So I just used cable ties on the front side and a elastic band on the other side.
