Tamiya Ford F350 Highlift 3 SPD "Make over" 12 years 7 months ago #3042

Hey guys, Thought I'd share my Highlift make over on this sire aswell. Already got quite a history behind this puppy, but I'll get to that as we go along.

Here's a picture somewhere in the middle of progress

And here's a picture of my Proline 1.9 Flat Irons that I cut 2 treads out of and made 1.7 Flat irons.

As you can see, it made quite a difference to the overall diameter. It also made a difference on how it handles on a sideways climb.

Here's pictures of the gearbox, primed and sprayed light blue. (don't ask me why blue? I just like the color... )

Had some time to mess around with the position of the steering servo. The stock location works, but again, not very well. I saw this mod on another site I'm a member on, and decided to try it out. With a high torque servo installed, it has a much more direct feel, and can handle steering on rocks and even in mud or sand.

More to come on 4 link suspension mods...

I'm playing with a totally different rear suspension setup. A small clue: The shocks are diagonal, and they connect to drop link bars. I did something similar on my CC-01:

Resulting in an incredible amount of articulation

Edward
Very nice bit of articulation for a CC01, good idea and would like to see it some time.

Got some major work done today after work. Tried something a little different with the back suspension. Rear axle is hooked up via a 3 link system. As you can see in the next picture, the axle has three mounting points on it. 2 on the outside, and 2 together in the middle.

The ground clearance is quite crazy. The standard shocks are used(with the internal spring), with great success. I thought it might be too soft, but for now it seems to work. I'll have to hammer this rig a little tomorrow to find any weak spots.

As you can see in the last picture, the top of the shock is fixed to the drop link mentioned before in this thread. I must still cover the 3mm threaded rod with brake line, or carbon hollow tube. But I'll do that tomorrow.

More soon...
