58087 Manta Ray 11 years 6 months ago #13926

Another eBay impulse buy ... I'm not a big fan of Manga inspired plastic whizzy buggies, so I blame edou for this one ;)

I'm not expecting to get it until next week, so I only have the seller's dodgy photos to go by - but it does look promising :)

And it was cheap :y:

Manta Ray finally arrived after 2 weeks of delays & broken promises ... :angry:

It said "fantastic clean condition" in the listing ... really? :pinch:

Another one to sit in a box for a while until I'm less pissed off about it :huh:

I understand you'd rather be oblivious about this one for a while... ;)
But I'd really like to see some pics and know what's wrong with it exactly!
Must be my DF-01 fetish...

Everything is dirty - not just a bit of dust but the sort of soil/sand/grass/oil/grease where you need to wash your hands after going within 50cm of it;

Body/wing/decals all have some damage;

Tyres are dry & two are so cracked I doubt they're repairable, wheels are all badly kerbed;

Underside/bumper are all heavily worn, sides of chassis have heavy "peppering";

Most of the metal bits are oxidised or rusted - especially the driveshafts & springs;

Everything is heavily worn & floppy.

I've started dismantling & cleaning it as I'd rather have yet another car in bits and clean than leave it semi- whole & dirty ... I'm a bit more positive about it now, all the above "faults" seem to be from use & age rather than misuse and bodged repairs.

The motor looks very rough (some of the soldering is criminally bad) & dirty, but it sounded sweet enough when I span it up ...

I probably should stop whining as I paid little more than a fair price for a rough Technigold for the whole lot - In that light I thought it was only fair to give the seller +ve feedback on eBay :)

I'm glad you've found the positive in this :) you bought a Technigold that came with a free MantaR ay and control :)
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem mate :)

Nice Futaba Tx too :y:

I'm always amazed that people don't give stuff even a superficial clean before listing on ebay. You might be able to make yourself feel a bit better by dunking the whole thing in a kitchen sink of soapy water and scrubbing with the washing up brush. Don't let the wife see you though! :P

They're not virginal by any means, but still have a bit of squareness about them :) :y:
