...

you forgot the other three holes :P

or is that the original bruiser cab you are showing?

That's the re-re cab - rearmost hole is used to fix on the truck bed, the other two are for the side bumpers/rock rails/whatever you call them, the two I blanked off (1st & 3rd) aren't used, and according to the manual, you're supposed to cover them with the two small stickers supplied :S

The sills originally looked like this:
| | | |
| |---0------------0-----0-0-/ 0 |
|__________________________________|

If I'd left them & used the stickers, they would have looked like this:
| | | |
| | #------------0-----#-0-/ 0 |
|__________________________________|

But after filling, they look like this:
| | | |
| |----------------0-------0-/ 0 |

I use Hycote acrylic, available from branches of Wilco in the east Midlands and East Anglia in the UK, by mail order from them, and from lots of small independant DIY retailers on eBay.

I'd thoroughly recommend it, but I'm not sure how easy getting in in Germany would be :S

Have you noticed Hycote isn't quite as thick as it used to be? - I used to swear by the stuff for painting bikes, but around 2000 I noticed I was suddenly having to buy more of it to do the same job (Around the same time as their prices jumped up a couple of notches). In fact, nowadays I've found that Halfords own brand spray is more reliable. Of course, I usually mix my own paint & use a gun where I can, that way I get paint that behaves more like I expect it to (Reminissing about recent Plasticote induced stress)

TBH no ... but I would say it's variable - different colours seem to need different numbers of coats to get an even finish... from what I can remember of the stuff I've used recently:

Rover Applejack - 1 or 2
Machine silver - 2
Rover Nighfire Red - 3
Ford Tango Red - 3
Ford Pepper Red - 4
VW Jazz Blue - 3
Renault Monaco Blue - 4

I think the only Hycote colour I've used before would have been Ford Purple Velvet Metallic in 1999 or so, IIRC that needed 4 or 5 coats ... so no :)

Further Progress:

Painted the driver's shirt:

3rd coat on the body, colour is improving:

4th and final coat - colour is a deep cobalt blue, the photo doesn't really do it justice. it's barely metallic though.

It's Tamiya BS-69 Flat Blue Plaid

Seriously though, it's the same method I used for the driver in my Sand Rover 2011 - 5th post down here :)

Hehe, fond memories of sending the YTSer out to get tartan paint....
Can't believe you did that with a brush! Far more patience & a steadier hand than I!

Also left handed spanners, boxes of electrons, a "long weight" :D, and my personal favourite, giving someone a styrofoam cup & asking them to fill it with trichloroethylene  :silly:
